Mitchell E. Geffner, M.D.

Dr. Geffner is Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Fellowship Training in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. He is a member of the Saban Research Institute of CHLA.

He was recently elected as the Director of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES), where he served as the Chairman of the Program Directors’ Committee for six years. Dr. Geffner is a member of the Endocrinology Sub-Board of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a medical advisor to the MAGIC Foundation and the Pituitary Network, a member of the Board of Directors of the CARES Foundation, and a member of the National Steering Committee for the NIH-sponsored TODAY (Treatment Of type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth) trial and the Scientific Leadership Group of the NIH-sponsored Pediatric HIV AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS). He is Associate Editor of Pediatric Endocrinology Reviews and is co-editor of the current edition of "Principles and Practice of Pediatric Endocrinology."

Dr. Geffner’s basic research has been in the general area of hormone resistance. On a clinical level, he is involved in studies of new formulations, delivery systems, and indications for GH therapy, and optimization of treatment for children with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
