Alan Rogol, MD, PhD

Alan Rogol, MD, PhD

Dr. Rogol is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia. Currently he is Secretary of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES), the foremost organization of pediatric endocrinologists in the world, including more than 1,000 members from the United States, Canada, and 24 other countries. 

Dr. Rogol began his academic career at the University of Virginia and over the next 25 years rose to the rank of Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology.  At the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine, he has been a member of the Division of Endocrinology since 1975, professor of pediatrics since 1984 and a professor of pharmacology since 1987.  He has given lectures at many venues around the world and has published more than 275 peer-reviewed articles and more than 200 book chapters and review articles.

Dr. Rogol’s contributions to the field of endocrinology, especially in the areas of growth and adolescent development, have been recognized internationally. He serves on various editorial boards, including the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and American Journal of Human Biology, and has served as an editor or reviewer on many other professional journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and Growth Genetics and Hormones (GGH).  He has edited numerous books related to growth and to the endocrinology of athletic endeavors.

Dr. Rogol is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Sports Medicine and has served as a member of many committees.  In addition, he is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Pediatric Society.  He obtained both his MD and PhD (physiology) degrees at Duke University.  He completed a pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins and a fellowship in endocrinology at the Clinical Endocrinology Branch of National Institutes of Health National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH-NIDDKD).
